Tonight was the Mother/Son Disco Dance at school! Thomas had such a great outfit....he looked like such a disco boy!
We were both looking forward to this dance all week long.
When we got there, something strange happened. I saw Thomas get overwhelmed with the newness of the situation (the lights, the music, not having his friends at his side) and he shut down. He did not want to dance and when his friends arrived, he did not want to hang out with them.
That is not like Thomas at all!
He finally asked me if we could go home. We left but I suggested some hot chocolate, Christmas lights and just spending some time together. He actually cried.
The hot chocolate turned his spirits around and we ended up having such a nice time riding around, talking and looking at lights. I made sure he knew that ultimately the night was all about a mother and son spending time together and we did that.
It was very out of character to see Thomas get overwhelmed socially but a good reminder that he is a dynamic work in progress!!
When I said good night to him, he thanked me for such a fun night. I guess it was a good night after all:)
